I have to admit that the boys, although already 6 and 3, still have trouble sleeping in their own beds. Go ahead, blame me!
I decided to try out this new product called Sleeper Hero. It is a stuffed super hero with a light on his chest that comes with a book about how he keeps you safe in your own room, etc. You can program the light to be either red or green depending on your child’s bedtime and wake up time. I programed mine to turn red at 8:00 pm and turn green at 7:00 am. The child is to stay in their own bed while the light is red and is allowed to get out of bed when the light turns green.
I have been using this for a month now and here are my thoughts:
The doll is adorable! It is super soft and the boys love to snuggle it and really get a kick out of the light.
I read the book to them the first night that we had the dolls and they seemed to really like it. I then continued to talk about the story each night and the power of the sleeper hero, while changing it a little to suit my boy’s personalities. For example, I told them that the red light on their Hero’s chest zaps any imaginary monsters that they see. They loved it!
The boys are now great about going to bed with their Sleeper Hero, which is a vast improvement! They get excited when the red light is on and know that it is time for bed. Most nights they stay in their rooms until the middle of the night, when we hear those quick footsteps sprinting to our room. Some nights they stay in bed all night! They aren’t quite convinced about the power of the hero when they wake up and their little imaginations take over. That’s ok!
Overall, the dolls have helped us get our boys to start in their own beds which is much better than before. I don’t mind if they want to come in for snuggles in the middle of the night. They will only be this little for a short amount of time and I will miss these middle of the night visits when they stop. See! I know! I am to blame! 🙂
I would definitely recommend giving the Sleeper Hero a try! I truly believe that most children will believe in the power of the Hero and stay in bed. Ryker is already 6 and has ideas of his own which Grey follows. If your children believe, it will work!
